Experience

Personal Statement My main career was as an electronics factory manager in Asia, for 25 years. Since, I have been a college teacher, a Navy PACE instructor, and a tutor. I'v trained local students in Hong Kong, Korea, Okinawa, Malaysia, Bangkok, China, Singapore and the Philippines. Many of my students are now successful engineers, accountants, businessmen, teachers, and some climbed to factory managers. Every new assignment in Asia was to train the entire staff. Primary mission was teaching capitalism, free market thinking, and individual success. Topics ranged from quality, logistics, finance, accounting, materials, scheduling, engineering, management, economics, and performance measurements. The transfer of USA technical skills to Asia over the past 50 years has been unparalleled. I am proud to have been a player. I now continue as a coach. It forever brings a “rush” to be part of each students expressions of enlightenment when they learn new concepts. When there is a will to learn, I can find the ways to bring forth the enlightening. I’m an undergraduate of San Diego State University as an Industrial Engineer. I then went to San Jose State for my MBA, but dropped out to live in Asia. I returned to The George Washington University where I restarted my entire MBA program. The second time through I was allowed to take all new courses, as I received credits for all the core courses from San Jose State. I love teaching business, economics, business math, and decision making. Andrew Swank _____________________________________________ Major Skills & Abilities…. I am a college professor of managerial accounting, financial management, industrial engineering, supply-chain management, quality management, general management, and mathematics. I’m a proven quantitative analyst who can calculate time, money & risk. I teach all that I have learned from my over 25 years of manufacturing semiconductors, disk drives, toys, portable buildings and consumer electronics. In Asia, I have done 3 new plant start-ups, plus 3 “fix the broken factory” jobs. I am particularly proud of final performance achievements of all six of these manufacturing enterprises. I am now a full-time teacher, which in fact, is the same job. I teach Math and Business as a PACE Instructor… my last assignment was on USS Boxer. I taught Math, Algebra, Geometry, Personal Finance, Introduction to Business, and Small Business Management. I am becoming the “Susie Orman of the Fleet.” And I am the Capitalism Teacher. I have extensive experience in… preparation of budgets, schedules, and risk analysis. Also, in staffing, training, goal setting, performance measuring, and follow up to insist keeping the focus on the goals. I have been working with Central Texas College as PACE instructor for past 3 years, and have taught the Personal Financial Management class many times. I studied Personal Financial Planning and have used my own MBA financial training to invest in Capital Markets around the world. I also teach USA Business history as well as comparative business history. My experience from teaching Asians with poor English skills has enabled my presentations to be clear, easy to understand, yet cover the issues in depth. My students finally learn “to get it.” My leadership and training… have always insisted the structural basis of Problem solving is Sound Managerial Fundamentals. My career path included Industrial Engineering, Quality Management, Supply Chain, Logistics, and Master Scheduling Management, Cost Accounting, Budgeting Management, and Outsourcing Programs Management. I know how to spot problems, how to measure & describe problems, how to fix problems and how to keep them fixed. I am a Problem Fixer…. The major emphasis simply states: Improve the Training and Empowerment of the people, and the people can carry out their dreams. A win – win. The Industrialization of Modern Asia involved many Western Manufacturing concerns setting up factories, recruiting, training, and empowering Asians to build careers, to solve industrial problems, to then perpetuate the cycle of training and empowerment. People must be trained and then empowered to solve problems. I was part of this cycle; I was their “trainer.”

Hobbies

During my college days I spent 2 summers as a La Mesa YMCA Day Camp Counselor. As an Industrial Engineer, I taught job skills to assembly, clerical and warehouse workers. As an American overseas in Korea, Okinawa, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Thailand, China and Philippines I had classrooms in every factory and I taught weekly coursework in all Industrial Subjects: Accounting, Quality Control, Scheduling, Supply chain, Industrial Engineering, Work Measurement, and Management. I am familiar with teaching in English to students with only Pidgin English skills. So I learned to speak slow, clear, simple words, and I learned to understand them and their knowledge absorption rates.
